How Bail Works in Tarrant County
When someone is arrested in Tarrant County, they are centrally received at the Tarrant County Corrections Center, 100 N. Lamar St., Fort Worth, TX 76196, operated by the Tarrant County Sheriff's Office – Detention Bureau. The Detention Bureau books in approximately 35,000 people a year across five facilities with a combined capacity of roughly 5,000 inmates. Bail is the process that allows an accused person to be released from custody while their case is pending, usually by posting money or a bond that guarantees they will return to court.
An arrest is not a conviction. Bail simply secures a person's appearance and does not decide guilt or innocence. Amounts and conditions are set by a magistrate, not by the jail staff or by a bondsman.
